Six Bottles, One Decanter: South African Wines for the Autumn Table
In October, the last swallows leave the English countryside and fly south to spend the summer on the Cape coast. Our family makes the same journey, between Walker Bay and West Sussex. This month, we want to bring a little of that Cape warmth to your autumn table.
From 1 to 31 October 2026, choose any six South African wines from our Vinography or Estate Range and we'll include a Benguela Cove decanter with your case.
Why a case of six suits the season
The clocks go back on Sunday, 25 October. Evenings close in, the fire goes on earlier and the Sunday roast returns to the centre of the week. Autumn is the season for opening a good bottle without waiting for a reason.
One bottle carries one dinner. Six bottles carry the season: a red for the first roast, a white for a Friday supper, a bottle for the friends who arrive in November and one you keep back for December. You choose once, and the right wine is waiting when the moment comes.
What makes Benguela Cove wines different
Benguela Cove sits on the Walker Bay coast near Hermanus, where the cold Benguela current and the Atlantic Ocean shape every vintage. Warm days ripen the grapes and sea winds cool the vineyards, so the fruit ripens slowly and keeps its freshness. The wines show bright acidity and layered fruit, closer in style to the Old World than many expect from South Africa.
Head Winemaker Johann Fourie works only with estate-grown grapes, from vines between 16 and 22 years old. The estate holds WWF Conservation Champion status, and our 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon ranked in the top 10 with 95 points at the Winemag Next Generation Awards 2024.
The Estate Range: red wine and white wine for every autumn meal
Each Estate Range wine comes from a single estate, in a consistent house style.
- Pinot Noir: Turkish delight, baking spice and a soft, creamy tannin. Pour it with roast duck or the first pheasant of the season.
- Syrah: made with restraint, so the oak never covers the fruit. A partner for slow-cooked lamb shoulder.
- Cabernet Sauvignon: expressive fruit with Old-World structure. The wine for roast beef and Yorkshire puddings.
- Collage: a Bordeaux blend of five varieties chosen through a seven-stage selection. In Johann's words, "classic but with bright fruit and freshness as expected from cool-climate winemaking." Try it with venison.
- Chardonnay: fresh and full, with a chalky texture and a long finish. Serve it with roast chicken or butternut squash risotto.
- Sauvignon Blanc: green fig, grapefruit and gunflint. A match for a goat's cheese tart.
- Joie de Vivre: a Cap Classique, South Africa's traditional-method sparkling wine, made from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Open it for the first toast when guests arrive.
Vinography: single origin wines from the edge of the Atlantic
Vinography is our single-vineyard collection. Each bottle records one vintage from one vineyard in Walker Bay.
- Vinography Cabernet Sauvignon: ripe red fruit, violets, dried vanilla pod and tobacco, with well-integrated tannins and a lasting finish. This is the bottle your decanter was made for.
- Vinography Chardonnay: fruit and acidity in balance, with a saline trail and a dry, rounded finish.
- Vinography Sauvignon Blanc: papaya, quince and lemon over a flinty, chalky palate. Oyster season has returned with the "r" months, and this wine belongs beside them.
Three ways to build your case
Mix freely across both ranges. If you'd like a starting point:
- The Sunday Roast Case: two Cabernet Sauvignon, two Syrah, one Pinot Noir, one Collage.
- The Autumn Table Case: two Pinot Noir, one Collage, one Chardonnay, one Sauvignon Blanc, one Joie de Vivre.
- The Vinography Case: two each of the Vinography Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
Why decant a red wine?
Decanting gives a red wine air. Oxygen softens firm tannins and opens the aromas, which matters most with structured reds such as Cabernet Sauvignon and a Bordeaux blend. Pour the bottle slowly into the decanter, leave it for 30 minutes to an hour, and taste how it changes.
Our clear glass decanter has a generous bowl and an easy-pour shape, finished with the Benguela Cove name. Long after the six bottles are gone, it stays on your table.

Frequently asked questions
Can I mix wines from the Vinography and Estate Range?
Yes. Any six bottles from either range, or a combination of both, qualify. Reds, whites and sparkling can sit in the same case, so you can match the case to the meals you have planned.
How long does the October special offer run?
The offer runs from 1 to 31 October 2026, while stocks last. Decanter stocks are limited, so order early to make sure one arrives with your case.
Can I buy the decanter on its own?
Yes. The Benguela Cove decanter is also sold on its own in our online shop. During October, it comes with every case of six from the Vinography or Estate Range.
How should I store my wine until Christmas?
Lay the bottles on their side in a cool, dark place with a steady temperature, ideally between 10°C and 15°C. Keep them away from radiators and kitchen heat, which age wine faster.
