Enjoy a Private Online Wine Tasting Experience
Free with every case of Benguela Cove Wine*
A free online wine tasting experience with a wine ambassador is now available when buying a case of six bottles or more from the Benguela Cove Lagoon vineyards in South Africa.
Buyers can book a 30-minute session for any convenient time when purchasing from the vendor’s UK website, in an initiative to support the South African wine industry.
“The wine tastings are a great gift for birthdays and other occasions, while travel and meet-ups are difficult to organise during the pandemic. When you book a wine tasting, there is an option to include other people in the webinar, to share the experience at no extra cost,” says Penny Streeter OBE, speaking from lockdown prohibition in South Africa.
Penny Streeter is the owner of Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate - and also Mannings Heath Golf and Wine Estate in West Sussex, which is due to bring in its first harvest later this year. Total production is projected at some 75,000 bottles of sparkling wine annually, with the first release of wine in 2023.
The South African government has banned both domestic sales and the export of alcohol during the lockdown here, and the wine industry is suffering terribly, she says, so the UK tastings initiative will help the employment of at least some vineyard staff.
“In the UK, this is a great opportunity for the public to find out more about wines and the conditions that create each variety.
Benguela Cove, for example, is unique in its location in a lagoon at the very edge of the Atlantic Ocean.
The south-easterly sea breeze is chilled by the Benguela Current flowing up from Antarctica, to cool the grapes at night after warm summer days, irrigated by above-average rainfall, for slow ripening and perfect viniculture.”
