Our Wines And Stories: The Signature Estate Collection
Having explored Benguela Cove Méthode Cap Classique and the Lighthouse Collection wines, we now look to telling the story of our Signature Estate Wine Collection.
Benguela Cove Estate Wines - The Story
Benguela Cove Wine Estate boasts the longest stretch of ocean facing vineyards (2.6km), grown at the lowest altitude (2.7m above sea level). With this unique location and optimum climate conditions, ideal for viticulture, our master winemaker creates award-winning cool climate wines.
Benguela Cove winemakers use only estate-grown grapes. Dedicated to the craft of allowing each wine to tell its own story, every vintage encapsulates the quintessential Walker Bay cool climate and terroir. The Signature Estate Collection wine range bears consistent quality that echoes the diversity of styles produced from a single estate, be it red or white wine.
The vineyards are brought to life on the shores of the Bot River lagoon where this special Walker Bay terroir holds the key to creating wines layered with fruit and poised on natural and bright acidities.
Our vines are adjusted to the marginal conditions close to the sea, anchored in diverse soil types and on different aspects that in turn create various microclimates to harbour different varieties. While warm days ensure phenolic ripeness, cool, moisture-laden sea winds help to establish a cooler median daytime temperature that allows for slow ripening.

Benguela Cove Sauvignon Blanc 2019
Nudged by the Bot River lagoon with vistas of the Atlantic Ocean, these vineyards enjoy cool daytime temperatures that drop even more at night. The aim with the estate Sauvignon Blanc is to capture the essence of a cool climate region and to deliver with great balance, length, intensity and concentration.
Vivid aromas of green figs, bell pepper and gunflint, balanced with sweet tropical fruit and lemon. Alluring lemongrass and pineapple nuances carry through on the palate, met with a racy acidity.
Benguela Cove Pinot Noir 2019
Walker Bay is synonymous with outstanding South African Pinot Noir. This Pinot Noir is a true impression of a vintage, packed with layers of fruit and intricate flavour nuances that make you want to go back for more. With only 11 barrels produced, this delightful vintage has become a popular favourite. The wine keeps you on the edge of your seat and surprises with a medley of aromas that includes red liquorice, violet and mulberry with a cool and earthy edge of fennel and dried organum.
Benguela Cove Malbec 2018
Walker Bay is making great inroads with Bordeaux varieties. Malbec found a home here and the vineyards enjoy the nuances of the climate, resulting in beautiful and concentrated fruit. The intensity of colour will romance you and deliver on an equally intense palate. Layered aromas of plum, liquorice, thyme, black pepper, mulberry, leather, black cherry and violet do it justice. The rustic-elegance of Malbec is met with delicate nuances of ripe strawberry on the after taste with a salty finish, solid tannin and a youthful acidity.
